Hosted on July 16th, 2025, the training was delivered byJasmine Griffin, MA, LPC and Jess Dalpe, LMSW.
Newcomers face unique challenges that increase their risk of experiencing family violence including intimate partner violence (IPV) and domestic violence (DV). Systemic inequality, power dynamics, and social determinants all play a critical role in shaping this vulnerability. Gaining a deeper understanding of the underlying causes, as well as the critical elements of violence and abuse within relationships, is essential for effectively supporting clients and their families. This webinar will explore the complexities of power and privilege and examine the different forms violence can take in relationships. Participants will also learn how to implement a survivor-centered approach in service delivery, gain insight into the role of direct service providers after a disclosure of violence, and develop the skills needed to assess situations and respond appropriately to clients’ needs.
By the end of this webinar, you will be able to:
– Describe the core concepts of family violence within newcomer populations
- Apply a survivor-centered approach to family violence during service provision
- Develop foundational skills to effectively assess and respond to disclosures of violence and refer clients to appropriate services
