Identifying and Reporting Hiring Discrimination against Newcomers

This webinar will help service providers identify and address hiring discrimination, with a particular focus on the rights of newcomers as employees. Two experts from the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) Immigrant and Employee Rights Section (IER) will demystify the legal intricacies of prohibited discrimination under the law, including aspects of citizenship or immigration status discrimination, national origin discrimination, unfair documentary practices, and retaliation. 

After participating in this 90-minute session, you will be able to:

  • Identify the types of hiring discrimination prohibited under the law 
  • Use and interpret Form I-9 and documentation required by the E-Verify system  
  • Recognize the rights of newcomers as job applicants and employees 
  • Describe the process of effectively filing a charge with the Immigrant and Employee Rights Section (IER), as well as the potential remedies and support available
