Emerging Issues in Afghan Asylum Adjudications

Since the evacuation from Afghanistan in 2021, thousands of Operation Allies Welcome parolees have applied for asylum. In this virtual training, panelists will discuss the emerging issues and trends frequently reported. The training will focus on the following trends: one-year filing deadline, the intersection of TPS and affirmative asylum, asylum bars (terrorism-related inadmissibility grounds, persecutor bar), and affirmative cases that are pending decision past the 150-day mark. Panelists will share their insights, experiences, and practical pointers.
